Nobody wants to have crooked or badly spaced teeth. Today, this is pretty easy to correct with veneers, thin, custom-made shells made from tooth-colored materials that cover the front of teeth. When placed on your teeth, veneers improve your smile by correcting stained or discolored teeth, and giving you a well-aligned beautiful smile.
Years of eating and drinking teeth-staining foods takes its toll. Luckily, there are a variety of products and procedures that can make your teeth shine once again. Teeth whitening procedures use safe and gentle gels that help erase or minimize stains that get into the outer layer of your teeth, also known as the enamel.
One of the most important keys to optimal dental health is preventing issues before they happen. It’s much more affordable and comes with less pain if you prevent tooth decay and gum disease. Keep up with your regular teeth cleaning and oral exams and be sure to adhere to the following recommendations by the American Dental Association:
- Brush your teeth twice each day, using an ADA-approved fluoride toothpaste.
- Get a new toothbrush approximately every two months. If the bristles are frayed, do so sooner.
- Use floss to clean between your teeth each day to remove plaque and food particles. Bacteria trapped between your teeth and underneath the gumline leads to tooth decay.
- Eat a healthy balanced diet.
- Visit your dentist regularly for professional cleanings and oral exams.
Restorative dentistry is concerned with diagnosing, studying and managing diseases of the teeth and their support structures. It also involves rehabilitating dentition, which pertains to the development of teeth and their arrangement inside the mouth.
Prosthodontics, or prosthetic dentistry, pertains to the diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation and maintenance of the oral health, function, comfort, and appearance of patients with clinical conditions associated with missing or deficient teeth and/or oral and maxillofacial tissues.
At King Dental, we use a variety of treatments to assist in preventing or treating periodontal disease. It is often pain-free, which sounds good on the surface, but if left untreated can lead to an increase in the risk of heart disease, stroke, and pregnancy complications. This underscores the importance of regular dental checkups so conditions like these can be detected in time for proper treatment.
Cosmetic Periodontal Surgery
Periodontal procedures don’t just focus on functional and structural issues of the teeth and gums, they also serve to improve a person’s appearance. Cosmetic periodontal surgery can help improve your smile, which creates a domino effect by improving self-confidence, leading to other improvements in one’s life. When your gum line is normalized or teeth are repaired, both your dental and mental health improve!
Scaling and Root Planing
This procedure is one of the most effective ways to treat gum disease. During scaling and root planing, your dental hygienist will clean between the teeth and gums right down to the roots. Sometimes the local anesthetic is used to numb your gums and roots.
In this common surgical procedure gum tissue or bone is taken out, which exposes more of the tooth. This is done when a tooth needs to be fixed but not enough of it is exposed. local anesthesia is used during the crown lengthening surgical procedure.
Bone and gum tissue should fit snugly around your teeth. If there are pockets, osseous surgery may be performed. This surgical procedure is used to reshape the bone surrounding the patient’s teeth. If these pockets are left untreated it allows a larger space for bacteria to live.
GENERAL & FAMILY DENTISTRY
King Dental offers a full range of preventative and general dentistry procedures. We feel it’s important that our patients are armed with the knowledge they need to develop healthy habits and maintain the best oral health possible.
Dental Checkups & Hygiene
The two main elements that make up the foundation to optimal dental health are regular dental checkups and staying on top of your daily dental hygiene routine. If you do so properly, most of the rest of the procedures on this website will never need to be performed.
Most of us know the basics: you need to brush twice a day and floss, preferably before you go to bed. Additionally, you need to stay up on regular checkups and teeth cleaning, which usually occur twice a year
One way to prevent cavities and decay in the hard-to-clean areas of your teeth is to seal them with a special sealant. The anti-bacterial coating applied to the surface of your teeth can help stave off root decay before it starts.
Dental fillings are used to restore tooth structure lost due to cavities, fractures or gradual wear. It is a strong material that bonds to your teeth and restores healthy function of the tooth and also prevents cavities from causing infections.
The conventional option for quite some time has been metal fillings. While this option does the job effectively, advances in dental materials made for a more aesthetically pleasing experience. Tooth-colored restorations are often used that last long and blend naturally with your teeth.
Dental bonding is an effective and affordable option to improve the look of your teeth, including chips, cracks or discolorations. It’s also used to correct alignment issues, removing unsightly gaps.
Dr King will choose a composite resin that best matches your natural tooth color. After the bonding material is applied your teeth will be protected from future cracking and chips.
Depending on your need a denture can be “conventional” or “immediate”.
A conventional denture is placed in the mouth after five dental visits from the point of teeth being extracted. An immediate denture is placed in the mouth as soon as the teeth are removed. These differences will vary from patient to patient.
Partial dentures are similar to complete dentures, except the plastic teeth and acrylic gums surround frameworks made of metal or flexible thermoplastic material. While the metal framework partial dentures will take five visits to place, the thermoplastic (Valplast) will take two to three appointments for final placement.
It used to be that the solution for replacing missing teeth was limited to dentures or fixed bridges. With the advent of dental implants, patients can enjoy the strong foundation they provide.
Dental implants are titanium cylinders that replace the root of a missing tooth. They are integrated with the jawbone over several months and become an anchor for the prostheses that is used.
Dental crowns are used to provide support for teeth with fractures or structural loss due to trauma or cavities. This helps with the long-term survival of the remaining tooth.
Modern dentistry uses several types of crowns, which are chosen depending on the nature of the dental condition and their special aesthetic and functional needs. Each of our patients who need crowns will discuss their unique situation with Dr King to come up with the best solution for them.
If missing the inferior ability to comfortably chew your food or speak you want to consider dental bridges. if the issue is not corrected, over time it can lead to other dental problems including a misaligned bite.
When Dr King performs a dental bridge procedure, he reshapes the teeth on both sides of the gap. Dental crowns are made and a natural-looking prosthetic tooth will be custom-crafted in a lab. Once the dental bridge is ready, Dr King will cement it securely between your healthy teeth, leaving you with the same support and look have with your natural teeth.
Inlays & Onlays
Both inlays and onlays repair mild decay or damage to the teeth in the back of your mouth. they are also a viable alternative to dental crowns in repairing cracked teeth when the damage is not too great. Since they can be made out of durable tooth-colored porcelain, they are a more enduring and natural-looking alternative to metal fillings.
Dental inlays and onlays start with an impression of your tooth and a temporary inlay or onlay placed over the tooth. The impressions are sent to a dental lab where they are created to match your tooth’s unique shape. When the inlay or onlay is ready, it replaces the temporary version. This procedure usually involves two dental visits to finish.
TMD & TMJ Treatment
The temporomandibular joint (TMJ) is the area on both sides of your head where the upper jaw and lower jaw meet. Inside these joints are muscles, tendons, and bones that allow the lower jaw to close on the top jaw allowing you to bite, chew, and talk.
TMJ disorder (also known as TMD) occurs when there is a problem with how those muscles and joints that control your jaw are working. This can lead to many painful problems, including stiffness, headaches and ear pain.
If you experience chronic headaches, and pain in your jaw, shoulders, and neck you may be suffering from TMJ. Contact us and we can help diagnose the problem and move forward with several options.
